How accessible this website is
Most of our website is accessible, but some parts are not. Below is a summary of the issues we know about and plan to try to fix.
Images
Some decorative images have long descriptions, even though they do not contain important information (this means screen reader users may hear extra content they don’t need).
Headings, page structure and navigation
These issues include:
- on some pages (including Where to Report Something and Where to Get Support) text looks like a heading but is not coded as one
- some quiz pages skip heading levels or use them in the wrong order, which can make the page harder to follow
- some quiz answers are marked as headings by mistake
- the “On this page” link list is not grouped as a navigation area, which can make it harder for screen reader users to use
Quiz structure and controls
These issues include:
- on quiz pages, answers are not linked clearly to the question, so screen readers may read answers without the question
- you cannot adjust text spacing inside the quiz box, even though you can on the rest of the page
- on some quiz questions (for example Question 1 and Question 5), the tab order does not match the order shown on the screen, which can confuse keyboard users
Page titles
These issues include:
- some pages do not have clear or accurate page titles
- the Home page title includes wording that may sound like a progress indicator, which may confuse screen reader users
- quiz pages do not update the page title when you move between questions or results, so screen reader users may not realise the page has changed
Cookies banner and preferences
These issues include:
- when the cookies pop‑up appears the first time you visit the site, screen reader users cannot access it because focus moves straight to the main content
- on Android TalkBack, if you close the Cookie Preferences panel, focus does not go back to the right place, and hidden options can still be reached
- the button that opens cookie settings is labelled “Open CMP Widget”, which is unclear and may confuse users, especially those using screen readers
Language accessibility
This campaign site is currently only available in English. It was built and designed by the Department for Education (England). Future considerations are being made to widen language accessibility for Welsh speakers.
